Boston-based brokerage Horvath & Tremblay will expand its New York City presence with the integration of Paul Massey’s B6 Real Estate Advisors, the company announced.
Massey, who previously co-founded Massey Knakal Realty Services with Bob Knakal before running into financial struggles with B6, will lead Horvath & Tremblay’s New York City operations.
“Paul is one of the true icons of New York commercial real estate,” Horvath & Tremblay partner Bob Horvath said in a statement. “His relationships, leadership, and understanding of the market are extraordinary, and we are excited to continue building together.”
Massey launched B6 eight years ago, after Cushman & Wakefield bought Massey Knakal for $100M in 2014. Massey didn’t return to Cushman after a failed run for mayor of New York City in 2017.
B6 ran into financial difficulties by 2023, when Massey and his business owed more than $1M in tax liens and struggled to pay office rent, The Real Deal reported. Massey told The Real Deal he was able to stabilize the brokerage and is looking forward to growing with the new firm.
Horvath said the company’s centralized operations and technology organization free offices in each market from having to build out those functions but declined to disclose the financial details of the acquisition.
Horvath & Tremblay was founded about 10 years ago and focuses on investment sales, 1031 exchanges, debt/equity placement, and appraisal and valuation services. It has 17 offices across the country.
Horvath & Tremblay opened a New York office with four employees in 2024, The Real Deal reported. B6, which stands for Building By Building, Block By Block, brings about 20 employees.
Massey served as a “great sounding board” for the Horvath & Tremblay partners when they started the firm, and they look forward to partnering with him as they expand their national platform, Horvath said.
“I’ve admired and am proud of what Horvath & Tremblay have built over the years, and I’m excited about the opportunity to grow together and continue expanding the platform in New York and nationally,” Massey said in a statement.
